This year’s Helmuth F. Orthner Travel Assistance Scholarships were awarded to graduate students in Biomedical Informatics: Stacey Slager and Polina Kukharvea. This award is made possible through the generosity of Ms. Carolyn Orthner in honor of her beloved husband, Dr. Helmuth F. Orthner who passed away in March 2009.
The purpose of this award is to provide support to exceptional international biomedical informatics students who have been accepted to present at a meeting, or have been invited to participate at a meeting or other scholarly activity.
This year Stacey Slager will be presenting a poster at the 2015 AMIA Symposium on her project titled: Alternative Information Display of Clinical Research to Support Clinical Decision Making: A Formative Evaluation.
Polina Kukharvea will be presenting a paper at the 2015 AMIA Symposium on her project titled: Errors with Manual Phenotype Validation: Case Study and Implications.
We are grateful to Ms. Orthner and the Helmuth F. Orthner Scholarship Fund for the continued support for the Department of Biomedical Informatics.
