In recent years, “data science” has grown in both, industry and across academic fields. As a term, data science became popular in the technology and business sectors, with publications like the Harvard Business Review calling “Data Scientists” “the sexiest job of the 21st century”.[1]
Data Science can be described as the intersection of statistical and computational thinking together with the knowledge or expertise in a domain, for example in the biomedical field, the domain expertise can be medicine, public health or genetics within others.
The application of Biomedical Data Science projects is reflected in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for health and the implementation of Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms, Natual Language Processing techniques, and Big Data analysis processes.
Our faculty are leading projects in every one of these areas, supporting the University Health System and independent research.
