Hands-on Activities

A variety of practica provide students with proctored hands-on activities in research labs, hospital operations, and industry, such as build a FHIR-enabled app to interoperable across EHRs, work on a clinical research team applying NLP to clinical text, design and evaluate dashboards for clinical applications, and work on a project with one of our Industry Advisory Board partners.

Abundant Student Opportunities

The unique breadth and depth of opportunities for students in the department build on the strength in our diverse research areas. Student research is supported by federally funded individual investigator and center grants, 24 primary and 50 adjunct faculty who are international leaders in their areas and special interest groups for students, faculty, and industry partners with similar interests.

Mentoring Philosophy

We are committed to creating an inspiring and effective student experience. The quality of mentorship in our department is one of our highest priorities. At every level, our goal is to promote a learning environment that is both safe and supportive as well as stimulating.
