Dr. Jennifer Garvn has been elected to serve on the 2013-2016 School of Medicine Academic Senate. Dr. Harriet Hopf, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs states that "The Academic Senate plays an integral part in the shared governance of the University of Utah. Its status is codified both in the Policy and Procedures Manual and in the history of the University. Strong working relations have developed between the Senate and the Administration in confronting the issues faced by the University. Both Senate and Administration take the initiative in formulating issues and in developing responses to them.
University governance is a vital activity that sets the direction for the institution. By having faculty from the School of Medicine participate as a Senator, interests, concerns, and visions of the School of Medicine can be represented at the University level."
