Presentation Title:

Technology Support for Biosciences: Emerging Models

BIO

Gary K. Allen, DVM, PhD, DACVM is vice president of information technology for the University of Missouri System and oversees IT on its four campuses (in Columbia, St. Louis, Kansas City, Rolla), and statewide extension programs. He is responsible for the state research and education network (MOREnet) and is chief information officer for the Columbia campus (MU). In 2010, Dr. Allen assumed responsibility for coordinating shared services initiatives across the university system.

Dr. Allen is an associate professor of veterinary pathobiology in the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, and an adjunct faculty member in Health Management and Informatics in the MU School of Medicine. He is a diplomate (virology specialty) of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. He serves on the steering committee for the MU Informatics Institute, and is executive director of the university’s Bioinformatics Consortium.

Dr. Allen received his BS in agriculture (biochemistry emphasis) and a DVM degree from Mississippi State University, and a PhD in microbiology from MU. He completed postdoctoral training at Texas A&M University in immunology and biochemistry, and at the MU School of Medicine in medical informatics.


ABSTRACT

This presentation will focus on novel approaches to meeting the growing demand for technology services and expertise in biosciences research and education, in the context of decreasing public support.
