Bennet Peterson, PhD, Receives Prestigious Ken Jacobs Dissertation Award

The University of Utah is proud to announce that Bennet Peterson, PhD, has been selected as a recipient of the Ken Jacobs Dissertation Award. This distinguished recognition honors Dr. Peterson’s outstanding research, dedication, and contributions to the field of computational science. His hard work has truly paid off, and this award is a well-earned testament to his achievements.

The Ken Jacobs Memorial PhD Thesis Awards were established to honor the legacy of Ken Jacobs—known affectionately in the tech community as Dr. DBA. A pioneering force in the field, Jacobs was one of the first employees at Oracle, with a tenure second only to co-founder Larry Ellison. He was widely respected for his expertise in database technologies and remembered for his generosity, humility, and passion for innovation.

At the University of Utah, Ken and his widow, Margo Jacobs, have long been enthusiastic advocates for computational and database-related research, particularly work that advances health care. Through their support, the University and the Center for Genomic Medicine’s Utah Center for Genetic Discovery proudly continue to recognize exceptional PhD candidates whose work reflects the values and visionary spirit of Ken Jacobs.

Congratulations again to Dr. Bennet Peterson on this remarkable achievement.
