NLM Fellow joins Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology Program

Congratulations to Adriana Payan-Medina, who graduated from University of Utah in Spring 2023 with a bachelor’s in chemical engineering. She worked with Drs. Gouripeddi and Facelli since June 2020 as a Research Assistant and was also a National Library of Medicine T15 Training Grant Fellow. Adriana focused her efforts on developing informatics methods for using National Aeronautics and Space Administration satellite-derived air quality data including its provisioning and integration for exposure health research, and for characterizing its association with type 2 diabetes mellitus using machine learning methods. For these efforts, Adriana was presented the 2023 Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award at the University of Utah. She presented results of her work at various conferences including the International Society for Exposure Science annual symposium. During her time as an undergraduate researcher, she was also funded by the National Science Foundation, the University of Utah Summer Program for Undergraduate Research, and the University of Utah Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. Adriana is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program.
