Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kendell Clement to our DBMI community!

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kendell Clement as an Assistant Professor in the Tenure Track in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Clement will be joining us April 1, 2023, from Massachusetts General Hospital, where has been conducting research as an Instructor in Pathology.

Dr. Clement’s research focuses on epigenetic and genetic events associated with disease initiation, and harnesses cutting-edge technologies to identify and validate these events. Dr. Clement has pioneered tools and algorithms for high-throughput analysis in the groundbreaking field of genome editing and has contributed to the development of novel CRISPR nucleases, methods to measure genome editing safety, and multiplexed assays to study the effects of genomic perturbations in disease initiation. This work has resulted in numerous first-author research manuscripts (H-Index>28). Dr. Clement is also the recipient of a NIH Pathway to Independence K99/R00 grant awarded in May 2021 to study “Pan-disease characterization of DNA methylation dysregulation”. His translational approach uses innovative approaches from bioinformatics and data science to propose hypotheses which he validates using high-throughput experimental assays. You can learn more about his research here.

Dr. Clement’s research not only complements our existing translational bioinformatics program but will also strengthen and broaden this area of expertise, further enriching our education program and research portfolio. Dr. Clement holds a PhD in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics from Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology and BS in Computer Science and Bioinformatics from Brigham Young University.
